Buttercream Icing

Buttercream  icing is very quick and easy to make, and for me this is the best tasting icing. It can be used to decorate cakes, cupcakes and cookies. If you are new to buttercream icing, starting off with a basic buttercream recipe is a good idea. Here's a basic buttercream recipe I make.

1 cup margarine
3 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons milk

In  a mixing bowl, beat margarine, vanilla and milk until light.

Add sugar a cup at a time beating well on medium speed. Scrape down sides. Continue beating until light and fluffy.

Your buttercream is ready for use.

To get a pure white icing, replace butter with shortening.
When colouring buttercream using paste colour is better than liquid colour.
You don't have to restrict yourself to vanilla flavour, try other flavours too.
