Health benefits of Apples

Apples have numerous health benefits, perhaps this is why we hear the adage 'an apple a day keeps the doctor away' a lot. You might want to reconsider getting rid of your apple skin before eating as many of the nutrients are in the skin. Apples have become more common in Nigeria, and less pricey too. I love apples, I eat them at every opportunity I get.

  • The apple skin is rich in quercetin  which reduces the risk of sun damage to the skin.
  • Apples are rich in soluble fibre which make us feel full faster and for a longer period.
  • Contains Vitamin C which boosts our immune system. They also contain other nutrients like Vitamin K and flavonoids.
  • Eating apples often may help lower the risk of asthma and other respiratory diseases.
  • Chewing on an apple can help clean the teeth and kill bacteria in the mouth. This is why it is sometimes called Nature's toothbrush. This does not mean we should replace brushing with eating apples.
  • Apples can help with weight loss when eaten before a meal. It will make you feel full which will in turn make you eat less.
  • Pectin in apples contribute in maintaining the health of the digestive system. Relieves constipation.
  • Cancer prevention.
So the next time you see apples, stop and get some. Have a nice week!
